Lake Park

Spanning over 660 acres along the scenic southern shoreline of Lake Lewisville, Lake Park (often referred to as Lewisville Lake Park) is one of the most comprehensive recreational hubs in North Texas. Managed by the City of Lewisville on land leased from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, this massive park serves as a “one-stop shop” for outdoor enthusiasts, athletes, and families alike.

From professional-grade golf courses to waterfront camping and expansive athletic complexes, Lake Park offers a diverse array of activities just minutes from I-35E.

1. Golfing at Lake Park: Three Ways to Play

One of the most unique aspects of Lake Park is its extensive golf facilities, catering to traditional golfers, casual players, and even those who prefer “throwing” their birdies.

  • Lake Park Golf Club (18-Hole Championship Course): This 6,135-yard, par-70 course is known for its forgiving fairways and beautiful lake views. Named by Golf Digest as one of the “Best Places You Can Play,” it features a 30-bay lighted driving range and a full-service pro shop.
  • Lake Park Executive Course (9-Hole): For those short on time or just learning the game, the executive course is a par-29 layout that is fully lighted for night play. It also hosts FootGolf, a fun hybrid of soccer and golf.
  • Tom “Old Man” McCutcheon Disc Golf Course: This 18-hole championship disc golf course winds through the trees and along the lake bluffs. It is free to play and is a staple for the local DFW disc golf community.

2. Waterfront Recreation and Boating

Lake Park provides some of the most accessible water entry points on the south side of Lake Lewisville.

  • Swimming Beaches: The park features a designated swimming beach area with sandy stretches and roped-off water for safety. It’s a popular spot for families to set up umbrellas and spend a summer afternoon.
  • Boat Ramps and Docks: There are two major public boat ramps within the park, accompanied by courtesy docks. These ramps are well-maintained and offer ample trailer parking, making it easy to launch everything from bass boats to jet skis.
  • Fishing Barge: For those who want to fish without a boat, Lake Park is home to a dedicated fishing barge, providing a stable platform to catch crappie, catfish, and white bass.

3. Camping at Lake Park: RV and Tent Options

Lake Park offers one of the few city-managed campgrounds on the lake that provides a mix of full-hookup and primitive sites.

The RV Campground

Located at 1900 Kingfisher Drive, the RV park is nestled under a canopy of mature trees.

  • Amenities: 30-amp and 50-amp electrical service, water hookups, a free dumping station, two restroom/shower facilities, laundry units, and free Wi-Fi.
  • Perks: RV campers receive free admission to the day-use areas of the park during their stay.

Primitive Tent Camping

For a more traditional experience, the park offers primitive tent sites. These are located within a short walk of the lake and are perfect for those who want a “back-to-basics” weekend.

4. Massive Athletic Complexes

Beyond the water, Lake Park is a premier destination for regional sports tournaments. The athletic facilities are extensive and well-lit:

  • Soccer: 8 lighted soccer fields.
  • Baseball/Softball: 8 lighted baseball fields and 2 adult softball fields.
  • Football: 2 lighted football fields.
  • Playgrounds: Multiple modern playgrounds are situated near the athletic fields to keep younger siblings entertained during games.
